You don’t have to be Superman/woman!

In an attempt to show that a mental illness or brain disorder need not stop you from doing anything you like, mental health advocacy groups often talk about highly successful people who are also mental health consumers. Indeed, there is no reason a mental illness or brain disorder on its own should stop you from achieving your dreams if you have adequate support from doctors and family or spouses. However, not every mental health consumer is so blessed. In my forthcoming novel “The Overlife, A Tale Of Schizophrenia,” the mother and daughter heroines are not fortunate enough to have this much help. I show that even with severe paranoid schizophrenia that has caused you social trouble, it is possible to go on to be happy and socially accepted if you recognize the help your doctors can provide and remain true to yourself. Your goals should not be what society dictates as success but what you recognize as happiness.
