Music

Today I am copying the Blog post from my Blog on my dianadirkby.com site, because music is so important to me. Here goes:

“There was always classical music in our home when I was growing up. We had a piano, and my mother played it well. I learned piano for a few years and still play to amuse myself and my spouse. My favorite instrument is nonetheless the harpsichord. We had a lot of recordings of music at home and usually at least several hours of the day were devoted to listening to them. Listening to music became my favorite indoor pastime. As I grew older, and began to take an interest in movies, classic and modern, I found that I liked a lot of film music which led me to broaden my tastes, for example to include BlueGrass. The Australian aborigines have an exciting music that is part of their tradition. The term “Australian aborigine” is offensive to some, more politically correct terms being “First Nations People” or “Indigenous Australians.” The offending word “Aborigine” is associated with the British Colonial attitude to the Indigenous Australians, a horrific and shameful chapter in Australia’s history.
